Why you should attend a wedding workshop

On sunday October 15th I attended “From the Heart” wedding workshop held by Michelle Cox Photography. This was my first workshop that I’ve ever signed up for. Before I went, I did some research on the last workshop she had in march of 2017.  I even googled if workshops are worth the money (Because no, they are not cheap). I looked up wedding workshops on Instagram and past work from the other one. The reason i’m writing this post is because I know a lot of photographers will probably be like me and wonder if a wedding workshop is worth it and what its all about.

So what exactly is a wedding workshop and IS it worth it?
A wedding photography workshop is a event put together by another photographer and they teach you some information that they know from their own experience.  At this certain event we had class time and then a separate shooting time on a styled wedding shoot (my FAVORITE part).  Overall was it worth it? My opinion, yes. Here’s why:

You learn a bit….
Like I stated above in the beginning of the day we had “class time”.  This is where Michelle told us information about how to schedule and be successful at your consultation with your client.  She told us tips on the wedding day timeline, which I really enjoyed learning about because I’ve been working on trying to work with my clients more on their timelines.  We learned how to pose couples during our styled shoot and she gave us a little bit of styling tips.  She also told us what to think about while we’re shooting and to remember who we are shooting for.

You get to work with other photographers and vendors in your field…
I loved that we got to be around other photographers.  I don’t get to work with other photographers a lot so it is fun when I do get the chance.  We exchanged handles and got to feed off our own ideas to each other.

Photos…
This part is what makes it the most worth it to me.  I love the practice with the bride and groom model.  I love that we get portfolio work.  This was a chance for us all to work at a wedding without the huge fast pace and stress at a real wedding.  Styled shoots are so fun and a great time for overall wedding photography practice.

Now for the photos 😀

I HIGHLY suggest to attend a wedding photography workshop or a styled shoot. They’re a blast 🙂
Thank you to Michelle Cox for the workshop and all the vendors involved!
